It all began with a letter
"Since receiving your letter I love you." These words could be the start of a love story, but instead, Dr. Rudolf Hauschka’s declaration to Elisabeth Sigmund marked the start of Dr.Hauschka Skin Care. That was back in 1962.
The Viennese chemist, Dr. Rudolf Hauschka, established WALA in 1935 to manufacture anthroposophical medicines and dietary juice remedies using a completely new rhythmic process. In the early 1960s he wanted to extend the range to include special skin care products that would fit in with the company’s ethos. He wrote to Elisabeth Sigmund, a cosmetologist, also originally from Vienna. Her reply contained such original ideas and new approaches to skin care, that Rudolf Hauschka invited her to Eckwälden.
Original ideas for a special form of skin care
Elisabeth Sigmund did not hesitate long. She packed her bags and left Stockholm for Eckwälden. A competent working group consisting of pharmacists, chemists, anthroposophical physicians and cosmetologist Elisabeth Sigmund, came together in a phase of intense productivity to develop the new "WALA" skin care products.
By 1967 they had been developed. The initial range appeared on the market, at that time under the German brand name "Kosmetik-Präparate nach Elisabeth Sigmund", later to become known as Dr.Hauschka Skin Care.
Rhythm - the heart of Dr.Hauschka Skin Care
Dr.Hauschka quality is based on the use of choice ingredients, but the way in which we prepare the individual components is of at least equal importance. Rhythm plays an important role here.
Rhythm carries life
Dr. Rudolf Hauschka, WALA’s founder, had a key experience which was crucial in determining his subsequent scientific and philosophical path. In 1924, during the anthroposophical summer conference in Arnhem (Holland), he met Dr. Rudolf Steiner, the founder of anthroposophy. Many of the conversations between the two men centred on the question: what is life? Steiner’s answer was: "Study rhythms, rhythm carries life."
Hauschka took this idea on board and developed a manufacturing process in which he incorporated the rhythms of Nature. Even today, we at WALA still use this process to obtain water-based medicinal plant extracts that remain stable without the use of alcohol. This is also how the essences of medicinal herbs are obtained, which are used to make Dr.Hauschka Skin Care products, and contain all the vitality of the plants. It was the two processes which play an essential part in the rhythmic manufacturing process which gave WALA its name: Warmth and Ash, and Light and Ash.
Rhythmic care
Our skin has its own rhythms. For example, over a period of 28 days all the cells of the surface layer of skin are completely renewed. The skin functions differ during the day than during the night. Dr.Hauschka Skin Care products support these rhythms and thus stabilise the skin’s natural activity. The oil-free night care is adapted to the needs of the skin at night.
In the Dr.Hauschka Treatment the Esthetician stimulates a harmonious flow throughout the body. She gives the skin and the organism a regenerating impulse. The holistic Dr.Hauschka Body Treatment gives the client a rhythmic impulse from the tips of the toes to the top of the head. The result: an expression of harmonious vitality.
